The World Health Organization just released new physical activity guidelines recommending that pregnant and postpartum women should do at least 150 minutes of activity throughout the week, incorporating aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities, and limit time spent being sedentary. Pregnancy and drug and vaccine trials
Pregnant women are usually excluded from drug and vaccine trials. The concern underpinning this decision is well meaning, and yet it leaves us in ignorance as to whether many drugs that could do a lot of good are safe for pregnant women and the fetuses gestating inside them. This is hardly a new issue, but it seems acute at this moment as vaccines to prevent COVID-19 are being approved–especially since many pregnant women are also health care workers. Read more here.
