Pregistry’s Friday Recipe: Cookie Butter Puppy Chow

Puppy Chow (sometimes called “Muddy Buddies”) is an easy and totally addictive treat that you can often find on the back of a box of Chex cereal. The cereal is mixed with a combination of melted peanut butter, butter and chocolate chips and then tossed in confectioner’s sugar. The sweet-salty flavor is a total crowd-pleaser and can be adapted in so many ways!

For this recipe we’ve substituted the peanut butter with cookie butter – a spiced spread made from speculoos cookies. It pairs perfectly with the cereal. And though you could use regular chocolate chips we like white chocolate here, as it allows the flavor of the cookie butter to really come through.

This treat comes together very quickly and serves a crowd (assuming you can keep from eating it all yourself)!

Cookie Butter Puppy Chow:

  • 1 cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 1/2 cup cookie butter spread
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • 4 1/2 cups any Chex cereal

Place the confectioner’s sugar in a gallon-size plastic or ziploc bag. Line a baking sheet with waxed or parchment paper.

Melt the cookie butter spread and white chocolate chips in a large heatproof bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water. Remove bowl from heat and add the cereal; stir to evenly coat. Pour the cereal into the confectioner’s sugar, seal the bag and shake to coat. Spread evenly onto your prepared baking sheet and let set. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
